We Want to Hear From You!

We have recently updated our website!  The Excel Academy website now offers more courses, course dates and information than ever before.  Go for a cruise and check out our new Student Services page, educate yourself on our important Student Policies or become acquainted with our current and past students in the Photo Gallery.  If you like what you see, tell us by leaving a comment.  If you don’t, that’s okay too – we’d still like to hear your thoughts!

We have recently updated our professional development and workshop offerings for this spring.  Check under the Courses and Upcoming Workshops menus for more information!

We have changed the name of one of our core courses, Medication Administration for the Paraprofessional. It is now called Medication Assistance for the Health Care Provider to accurately reflect the unregulated health care provider’s role in medication delivery.  Direct Support Staff who assist with medications are providing a supportive role in regards to medications that is separate from the scope of a regulated health care professional, such as a LPN or RN.  This role includes providing medication reminders, assistance with medication preparation and monitoring for side effects.  These changes are in alignment with Alberta Health Services (AHS) standards and Alberta legislation to better protect the safety of our clients and staff.

Highlights of Changes:

  • Course name change
  • More comprehensive review of key terminology such as the difference between medication administration versus medication assistance; the difference between a regulated health care professional and an unregulated health care provider, and the difference between observation and assessment.
  • Inclusion of new material such as Excel Society’s client rights and additional rights when assisting with medications
  • Modification of the learning material format to provide clearer understanding and simplicity, as well as encourage greater comprehension
