More than Just a Bad Day: Understanding and Supporting Individuals with Depression and Self-injury*

18 January, 2016 @ 8:30 am - 2:30 pm

Free

Presented by Laurie Young & Janet Bauer

January 18, 2016, 9:00 am – 2:30 pm
Cost: No charge

Rates of self-injurious behavior have markedly increased over the past decade, especially among adolescents and young adults. Depression and self-injury frequently go hand in hand. Untreated depression can lead to unhealthy ways to deal with difficult thoughts and feelings. Self-injury is often regarded as a physical solution to an emotional problem. This session will explore the connection between depression and self-injury, myths about self-injury, factors that put individuals at risk of depression and self-injury and explore the motivation behind the self-injurious behavior. You will learn how to identify signs of self-injury and be provided practical strategies and resources to support an individual who might be self-injuring.

*Please note, we would encourage anyone interested in this workshops to register for both this and Supporting Self-Regulation on January 29th, but it is not required.
